Yesterday marked a massive personal milestone for me: completing my very first half marathon (21 km). Attending the event at the Wadia College Ground was highly anticipated, especially with Milind Soman hosting and bringing great energy to the crowd.
While the scenic route covering was good, comfortable, and pleasant to run, the management fell short on several critical logistics that heavily impact a runner's experience.
Areas that Need Urgent Improvement:
- Delayed Start: The email communication explicitly stated a 5:00 AM flag-off, but the race did not actually start until around 5:30 AM. Standing around for an extra 30 minutes disrupts a runner's warm-up and mental preparation.
- Lack of Water in Crucial Kilometers: Shockingly, during the final, most grueling kilometers of the 21K, there was no water available at the hydration stations. For a long-distance endurance event, running out of water at the end is a serious safety and comfort issue.
- No Post-Race Breakfast: After pushing my body for 21 km, I went to collect the promised breakfast only to be turned away and told that the food had finished. Failing to manage food inventory for registered participants is unacceptable.
