Participating in the DOUR – Mahalaya Marathon Edition 2 on 11 October 2026 was a rewarding and memorable experience. Completing the 10K run in 1:01:11 and securing 162nd position among 607 participants was personally satisfying and reinforced the importance of fitness, discipline, and perseverance.
While the enthusiasm of participants and the spirit of the event deserve appreciation, the overall execution exposed several areas requiring immediate attention. The event appeared to lack the level of professionalism expected from a large-scale running event. Post-run care for participants was inadequate, recovery arrangements were limited, and the quality and nutritional value of the food provided after the race did not meet the needs of long-distance runners.
Marathons are more than competitive events; they are platforms that promote health, wellness, and community engagement. Organizers should place greater emphasis on runner safety, hydration, medical support, recovery facilities, and nutritious post-race refreshments. Future editions would benefit from being approached not merely as a business venture, but as a genuine health and fitness initiative designed to encourage and support participants throughout their running journey.
Despite these concerns, the event provided a valuable opportunity for individuals to challenge themselves and celebrate an active lifestyle. With improved planning and a stronger focus on participant welfare, the marathon has the potential to become a truly memorable and benchmark sporting event.
