Ladakh Umlingla Challenge 2026: Official Event Timeline
1. Registration and Preparation
•Registration Opening: December 16, 2025.
•Medical Readiness: All participants must secure a Medical Fitness Certificate signed by a certified practitioner. This is a non-negotiable requirement for participation.
•Slot Availability: The event is strictly limited to 100 runners across all categories to ensure safety and environmental sustainability.
2. Pre-Race Mandatory Phases (Leh)
•Arrival in Leh: Recommended by July 1, 2026.
•Bib Distribution & Initial Medical Screening: July 1, 2026. Runners must be present in person for SpO2, BP, and heart rate checks. No bibs will be issued after this window.
•Leh Acclimatization Period: July 3 to July 7, 2026. Runners are required to stay at 3,500m to adapt to the thin air. Note: Accommodation and food during this specific week are not included in the registration fee.
3. Move to Base Camp (Koyul)
•Group Departure: July 8, 2026. All runners and the Sarmang team travel together from Leh to Koyul (4,200m).
•Base Acclimatization: July 8 and July 9, 2026. A two-night stay at the base station (included in the ticket for Indian citizens) for final high-altitude adaptation.
•Final Medical Clearance: A secondary screening at Koyul to ensure athletes are fit to start at extreme altitudes.
4. Race Day: July 10, 2026
•Start Time: 4:00 AM (IST) onwards.
•The Course: Starting at Umling La Top (5,799m) and descending through the Himalayan cold desert.
•Race Categories:
°70K Ultra: 14-hour cut-off.
°50K Ultra: 10-hour cut-off.
°Full Marathon (42.195K): 8-hour cut-off.
°Half Marathon (21.0975K): 4-hour cut-off.
°10K Run: 2 hours 15 minutes cut-off.
5. Post-Race
•Closing: Post-race meal at Koyul and finisher medal distribution.
•Return Journey: Organized transport back to Leh after the event.

Situated at an staggering altitude of 5,799 meters (19,024 feet), runners face a landscape where oxygen levels drop to nearly 40% of sea level and temperatures can plummet to -15°C.
